Why I Named the Brand PUNK

I am Pankaj Gulati, founder of PUNK. The brand started in 2002, but the idea of PUNK was never only about selling clothes. It was always about attitude.

When I started PUNK, fashion in India was very different. Most people were following safe styles, regular fits and predictable clothing. I wanted to create something that spoke louder — something bold, rebellious and full of personality. That is where the name PUNK came from.

For me, PUNK means individuality. It means not being afraid to stand out. It means wearing what you believe in, even if it is not “normal” for everyone else. PUNK was created for people who do not want to blend in.

From the beginning, our designs were built around bold graphics, dark moods, streetwear energy and non-basic fashion. Over the years, PUNK has explored gothic prints, skull graphics, oversized t-shirts, weed-inspired streetwear, statement typography and edgy everyday looks. Every collection carries the same thought — fashion should have attitude.

PUNK has seen many phases since 2002. We have grown through stores, malls, fashion changes, market ups and downs, and the shift from offline retail to online shopping. But the core of the brand has stayed the same. PUNK is still for people who like their style expressive, fearless and different.

Today, PUNK continues as an Indian streetwear brand built for the new generation, while carrying more than two decades of brand attitude. Our oversized t-shirts, gothic streetwear, skull designs, graphic tees and bold collections are not created for basic fashion. They are created for people who want their clothes to speak before they do.

PUNK is not just a name. It is a mood. It is a mindset. It is a way of saying that you are different — and you are okay with it.

Since 2002, PUNK has stood for individuality, attitude and fearless streetwear.

Stay bold. Stay different. Stay PUNK.
